#lullyslist | Into the Unknown

About one year ago, I made the decision to go for a creative retreat alone to Jogjakarta. I'm not an avid traveler so this is something new for me. I had my worries but yet looking forward to the trip.  One memorable incident which questioned me about being street smart was when I was on Gojek- the OG of getting a ride on a bike. I was a bit skeptical but my friend assured me it's quite safe and that she will also be making her way soon. I was rather calm until the rider and I couldn't find the exact location of this communal art house! He made a few turns and decided to drop me off nearby the address. ...

#lullyslist | Good vibes only.

It's my first blog for the year, mid January and I am feeling slightly overwhelmed.  Our body absorbs energy around us. Just like when we are stuck in a noisy and crowded place, the last thing on our mind is to escape to somewhere quiet. This year I would like to conserve my energy by practising mindfulness.   Photo credit: Spiritual Creative  I also feel the need to be mindful of how I spend my time;pockets of time during commute, quality dates with my loved ones, designing prints and creating art. What about the me time? See, how can I give my best focus to do my tasks and still being able to exercise and getting enough sleep. We will never have enough...

#lullyslist | #my1959

Hey! I'm sure you have seen our recent shawl design on our Instagram feed and stories. It's a tribute to 60 years of our National State Crest, National Pledge and National Anthem. The team and I were so honoured to be part of #my1959. When briefed to create a design based on these symbols, we chose the National Anthem.  We have all sang the Majulah Singapura all our lives during school assembly but do we really relate every word of it to our lives now? The composer Zubir Said is stranger to none. I wanted to know more about this talented man and his thought process while composing our National Anthem. In excitement, I went to the nearest library from...

#lullyslist | BE goes WILD!

It's that time of the year again, every November. BE kollective is made up of me, Selb and five of my artists/designer friends. We just had an art opening for our BE goes Wild exhibition. This year, I partnered with an art buddy, Izzan from Northlight school.  I first met Izzan at Jurong Bird Park, together with the other art buddies and BE mentors. I remembered he expressed his excitement about seeing the dinosaur descendants birds. He sat and sketched quite a detailed drawing. Weeks later, we met again to start painting on canvas. I guessed our painting styles matched! I was able to teach him painting techniques and saw his confidence grow.  The highlight of the art exhibition opening...

#selbsseries | Why decluttering can be sentimental?

Hi guys,  As I'm going closer to my EDD (expected delivery date), I have been doing a lot of cleaning up. From my store room to my work room, there were so many things I kept hoarding on for years that should have been thrown away. These things take up too much space and I sometimes wonder why do want to keep them. While decluttering my work room, both Lully and I discovered we have boxes and bags of Lully Selb's old sketches, drawings, fabrics and over the years, they kept growing.  It was tough to finally decide to let go some of the things. Imagine, for each collection, we have tonnes of drawings, followed by print designs, samples, RE-sampling and...
